Bedroom Furniture

Our bedroom furniture was delivered on Monday and we LOVE it. At one point we didn’t think  we would get it all in our bedroom because each piece is huge. Steven was able to figure out a new layout so that everything fit. We had to take the canopy off because we needed to  push the bed back a few more inches so that I could walk to my side of the bed and Steven could open is drawers. We had a nut plate break and they are replacing it, no problem. One of  the guys that delivered it and put everything together cracked  the board under the mattress and we’re sure they fix that, we just forgot to mention it to Sunny when we went yesterday. The mattress is VERY firm. In fact when Steven flopped one of the girls on the bed, there was no bouncy or much give in the mattress. It isn’t horrible to sleep on, but we will be ordering some mattress toppers off of Amazon. Oh and we need bedding. We got some sheets and a blanket for  now, but the BX only had two king sized sets, one in gold and the other was white with black trim.  And if you know me you know why the white wasn’t an option. I should not be allowed to buy white  anything because it will not stay white for long. Hopefully we’ll find a set that we like sooner rather than later :) Until then here are some photos that you’ll have to excuse. The girls were getting ready to watch Tangled in our room and Steven was trying to take some photos and talk to his Dad on the phone.

Spring Has Sprung

I have trying to give the girls a break from the camera lately. The other day when Lilly asked if we could go pick flowers I caught myself saying, “so we could take some more pictures”. Instead of always having a lens in their faces I have started to take some photos of the flowers here. There are so many different and beautiful kinds here and since spring has sprung they are starting too as well. Now I just need to convince Steve that I really need a good macro lens, hehe! These are some that I have taken in the past week.

Our Bedroom Furniture

Today we went out into Adana and saw our new bedroom furniture! It just needs to be stained and we will get it next week! I am SO beyond excited!!! We brought Sunny pictures of a bedroom set that we liked, you can see it here, and he made it for us. The only thing were a little upset with has nothing to do with Sunny. The BX doesn’t have any king sized mattresses so we ordered a Turkish one and it is pretty firm. We wanted to get a nice soft pillow-top mattress but it looks like we’ll have to wait until our next base. In the meantime, I’m going to look online for a good mattress topper. We cannot wait until next week!
Here are some pictures of the unstained furniture!

Sadie was clearly thrilled for us :) The canopy comes off and the finial attaches to make a poster bed.

These are the nightstands. The top knob pulls out a nifty little tray!

The frame on top of my dresser is a mirror.

Steven’s dresser is a TV armoire. Since he plays his PS3 in our bedroom and both he and I are close to blind, we needed a bigger TV in there. This armoire can comfortably fit up to a 40” TV. And the doors slide  back into the cabinet.

We cannot wait to get these :)

Last Weekend

One thing that annoys me most of Steven working nights is how our weekends work. I have to take the girls to church by myself, although last weekend they were pretty good, Lilly gets a half day with Daddy before school starts back up for the week, and Steven being up most of the nights he is home, which in turn makes him sleep until the afternoon. Not so much fun, especially for the  kiddos.  But we always try and make the most of the time. I am grateful the girls appreciate the small things in life, it helps a lot with limited time.

Sunday afternoon we went for a walk. There is a big playground in the older housing here and there are rarely anyone there when we go. It has a big  jungle gym, a small jungle gym- perfect for Ruby, 2 merry go rounds, and swings. The girls LOVE it, and I love that they are all able to play on one playground and I don’t have to worry about bigger kids trampling them. We played there for quite a while and brought the camera to shot some photos of the girls.

On the walk back to the house we stopped at the train tracks to take some more photos. There is a set of railroad tracks on base that aren’t used anymore so I took the opportunity to get some more photos. I’ve always wanted  some photos of the girls around train tracks and I didn’t have to worry about a train coming down the tracks. The big girls loved it. They picked some more flowers and used the tracks as balance beams. This weekend I want to take them back and bring a few props so they don’t get too bored with me and the camera. Hopefully they cooperate :) I don’t blame them for thinking it’s boring and not cooperating, but I think they’ll thank me when they are adults and have so many moments and memories to look back on.

I don’t think I have ever posted about the commissary here but I’m a little urked at the moment. Since we’ve lived here, just over a year now, we haven’t had any problems with it All of the food and supplies are flown here from Germany and there have been a few times when the flight to here had been cancelled or delayed leaving us with out certain items for a few days. Well the past 2-3 weeks they’ve been out of fresh meat. I can understand up to a week but this is seriously getting ridiculous. Not only have we not had meat but lately it’s milk too. When I went in today they only had 3- half gallons of whole milk and maybe 5 of the small chocolate milk and reduced fat milk, and they were running low on wipes and the pull-ups – for bedtime- that we use were  low too. I just wish they would give us a real answer as to why they are out of these items and when will they be back. I am kind of sick of the “flights have been cancelled”. I would truly be more understanding of the real answer, even if it was dumb, than this run around.

Living here has really made us appreciate the small things. Steven and I often joke about how if we were “in the states right now” how easy it would be to go shopping for what you need/want at any tine of any day. Even Sadie has realized how easy and fun it is to go get whatever you want instead of having to wait for the BX/commissary to have it. She keeps telling us she wants to move to Texas, live in a hotel on the “Sanny Tony River”, and go to Target and Walmart. We took England for granted, and didn’t realize how much we liked there until after we were gone, even Steven would like to go back. It’s almost hard to believe but we should have a new assignment this summer and we’re hoping it’s some place nice.

All of these photos were from that Sunday afternoon. I think they came out really good but I’m a little biased.

Nothing New on the Homefront

It’s been a while since I posted anything about what we’re up too.  But seriously, we’re not up to much. Lilly has been enjoying school, Sadie is handful, and Ruby doesn’t  really nap anymore. She has been trying to transition from 2 naps to 1, but it hasn’t worked out really well. She tries to hold off of  a morning nap, eats lunch,  then goes to sleep. But Lilly gets out of school at 2, so she usually wakes up when I pick her up. Or lately she has been taking a nap in the morning and Sadie or Lilly, depending on the day, usually wake her up after 15 minutes.

While I do have some time I have been trying to soak up and learn every little thing I can about photography. I have always wanted to take my own photos of the girls and be able get them at the quality I like. I think I am slowly getting  there. There is so much more left to learn. I have also been participating in I ♥ Faces weekly challenges so that I can learn more. I’ve also been experimenting with editing and using different actions. I just bought the Florabella Luxe Collection, and I am loving all the actions  it has. And I am so grateful for the girls cooperating with me.  We do have some moments when Sadie will only give  me dirty looks and makes faces at the camera, but for the most part they have been willing little models for me. They are all about wearing dresses and we don’t have enough of them for them to wear one everyday, so they are happy to dress up or put on a dress from their closet and let me take their photos. And Lilly has figured out that if she has something she wants to show Daddy or do for Daddy while he’s sleeping or at work, she just has to ask me to take a photo or a video. She’s such smart little cookie :)

And on a completely different note, I am so sorry that I am terrible at mailing things. We have had boxes started for family since we got back from the states in December. And yes, I do know it is March now. We still need to buy a few little Turkish things for them and then tape them up. I think it’s because I have to take a 3 year old and a 15 month old  with me and carry all the boxes. Then why haven’t I mailed those Valentine’s Day cards? Who knows? I need to work on that.  I am going to get all of that sent out within the week. Fingers crossed.

Lilly’s birthday is coming up and I cannot believe she is going to be 5. Where has the time gone? Since there are no party supplies here on base, you have to order them online or make them. I found a great website a few months ago. Smitten Blog Designs some great free printables that include party decorations. I showed Lilly and she decided on the cute circus theme. I just need to print everything out and cut it out. I’m going to make lots of cupcakes and popcorn. Since it is an afternoon party, I think I am going to skip meal type foods and have lots of snacks and drinks. I am actually pretty excited about it and not stressing like I usually do. I always want everything to be just right. I think I started planning it well enough ahead of time that everything is going smoothly. I’ll have to remember that for Sadie and Ruby’s birthdays because I’ll have 2 to plan at the same time. Sadie’s birthday is December 10th and Ruby’s is December 9th. I’ll need a pretty good head start on those.

All is good here and now though. The weather has been really nice and I am starting to dread the inevitable heat that is coming. At least we’ll spend a good chunk of summer vacation in the states! We’re so excited to go back. Sadie wants to go to Target and Walmart :) And all the pictures are from the past few weeks.

I Heart Faces- Sun Flare

This week’s theme  is sun flare. While I do love the look in photos, this is the first time I intentionally tried to photograph it. This is Ruby picking some daisies. She had a 15 minute nap this day and was really cranky. She didn't want to be held or go for a ride in the stroller, so we let her out to pick flowers with her sisters. It did the trick :)

You should join in all the fun at I ♥ Faces.

Grace, in Spanish?

Before we eat we always say a little prayer. We started when Lilly went to nursery school and she and her class would say a prayer before lunch. She would come home and want to say it before dinner too but we didn’t know all the words  to her school one so we started saying the one I grew up saying.
It goes:
Bless us oh Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy bounty. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

I have no idea where this came from, but Lilly was in the kitchen coloring one afternoon. She came into the living room and told me she knew how to say grace  in Spanish. I was really curios because it came out of no where and Steven and I don’t speak Spanish.  Sure enough she had something to share so I asked her to say it. Before I died laughing, I asked to say it on camera so we could share with Daddy and the grandparents.
ENJOY! The password is Spanish.

Kids Say the Darnedest Things, take 2

Steve and I are always talking about how we wish we had a video camera turned on the girls 24/7. They come up with the craziest things randomly throughout the day and we don’t want to ever forget it.

  • Ruby loves guys in uniform. She will just walk straight up to them and let them hold her and talk to her, and she just smiles away. She is the only one out of the 3 of them that likes the uniform. Lilly and Sadie associate it with Daddy leaving and at some points have just completely freaked out. I think because Steven was gone so much in England and Ruby has been through that yet.
  • Sadie starts talking to me in jibberish. She was trying to tell me her belly button hurt. I asked her what it was and she said, “It’s like kinda of round and has bumps in it.” I look ate her and say, “No, what is hurting it?” And when I look at it she‘s poking herself repeatedly in the belly button with her finger. I told her to stop and she says, “Oh, that’s better.” Ha!
  • Apparently when I talk and bob my head around with the words. Ruby has picked up on that so when she says, “Mm, mm, mm, mm, mm!”, she bobs her head all over the place. She already says “mm” and “yum” with every bite she eats so it’s just hilarious to watch her eat now.
  • We have been telling the girls that this time next year we will be moving again. They will pick a place that they want to live and ask if Air Force can send us there. It always varies and is always followed by, “Is there a Disneyland there?” Well Sadie told me in the car today that she can’t wait to move to Texas and live in a hotel. She REALLY loved staying in San Antonio with Memaw, Papop, and Shelby.
  • The big girls will always consider England home. We are going back to the states this summer to escape the heat of Turkey and we keep telling them we are going to Yiayia’s house in Pennsylvania. Sadie declared that she wants Yiayia to move to England so we can visit her there.
  • And yes, Ruby is still calling Daddy, “Muhma!”

Ha!

Kids Say The Darnedest Things

  • Lilly wrote a story at school with the help of her teacher. It was all about a picture she took at home of the princess table. It’s a table and two chairs with the Disney Princesses on it, and it was a birthday gift for Sadie’s 1st birthday. Her story goes like this:
    • This was a gift from my grandma. It came in the mail and Mom and Dad put it together. It’s a table and chairs with princesses on it. Put some food on it. The end.
  • Sadie came into our bedroom one morning needing help buttoning her shirt. Since I was trying to get dressed too, I asked her to go get her socks on first. She came huffing back to my room saying, “These socks are nauseating me!” I asked her to repeat and again says, “These socks are nauseating me because they’re not working!”
  • Sadie found a jewel sticker stuck to a blanket. She pulled it off and stuck it to her nose and said, “Look! I have a nose ring!”

  • Ruby is still calling Daddy, “Mama”, just to play a game with him. She thinks it’s hilarious!

  • We got a new coffee table and end table at the BX the other day. They were on clearance and we got both for like $60. I put a couple of photos on the end table. One of them is a photo from Yiayia’s house and it has the girls and their cousin Fifi. Ruby has been carrying it around showing us Fifi.  She can’t wait to go back to the states this summer and play with her.
