Today I'm linking up with Show Us Your Life- International Day over at
Kelly's Korner. We live in Adana, Turkey thanks to the US Air Force and before that we lived in England. We have basically lived our entire married life overseas and have been grateful for the opurtunity. It has really helped us put into perspective how blessed we are and to not take for granted time with our loved ones.

Our house on base, plus 2 other homes on either side. |
We live on base here and have enjoyed some of the things here. We don't have many things here as you do in the states, but we do have the opportunity to get some amazing things here. The weather is beautiful, the produce is amazing, and the people are so friendly. It's amazing to me how Americans can have so much and still want more when there are people here living with next to nothing and they are so happy and friendly. Life here is much slower, people take their time in everything they do; which can be a good thing or a bad thing!

The pillar on the left is part of a mosque. |
|
The balconies are apartments. Most look the same. |
|
Gas off base, at this time, was $7.52/gallon. On base it's about $4.75/gallon. |
|
The rugs are beautiful and plentiful here. |
|
More apartments. |
|
Can you spot another mosque? |

Most of the country is Muslim so there are mosques everywhere. One of the big adjustments was hearing the call to prayer 5 times a day. The girls were always asking who was singing and why!
It really is amazing here, but we can't wait to be back in the states :) All of our kids were born in England so they consider themselves English, so we want them to experience where were from. But this blog serves as our memory book for many years to come, so we can say "Do you remember living in Turkey?" and remind ourselves of our time here.
If you want to see more homes around the world check out Kelly's
blog for more!

Neat! It's always neat to see what it's like for others living in other countries. My grandpa was in the Army and served in Germany and I still enjoy hearing them tell about living there and touring Europe. And thanks to your husband for his service!
ReplyDeleteWe're neighbors- relatively speaking! We're AF at the US Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine. Your girls are darling! :)
ReplyDeleteI lived in Ankara for 3 years from age 8-11 and I have the best memories as a child. I went to a British school and traveled all over Turkey. I remember loving Kashadasi, Bodrum, and Antalya. The tangerines in the winter time were my favorite fruit. The call of prayer became normal to us and my sister and I used to pretend like we were muslim and pray and wear traditional Turkish clothes. I still remember going to the corner market all the time and buying "Pancos" chips. Do they still make these? Thank you for bringing me back almost 20 years and remembering all of my wonderful childhood "Turkish" memories!
ReplyDeleteneat! thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing experience! I grew up a "military brat" and we lived in Guam and Japan. I LOVED being raised overseas and in a military family. Those experiences are something you will never forget! Thanks for sharing a little bit of your life. Your girls are adorable!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog through Kelly's Korner. Looks and sounds like living in Turkey is a great experience!

ReplyDeleteTurkey looks beautiful and very sunny! I love the rugs, and that one bright yellow house, haha! :)
Oh, thanks for sharing! How fun! :) How weird to have your kids not experience where you grew up yet! :) Love that you are recording everything in a blog to preserve the memories!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! How interesting! We're looking into visiting Turkey in the spring for a vacation but likely just going to Istanbul, so it's nice to see what Adana looks like.
